1: Rank Sort Overview
The Rank Sort element utilizes a select form and must contain multiple labels and items. Survey participants rank response options by dragging an item to a rank position. This element does not utilize Flash.
2: Adding a Rank Sort Element
Note: You can set the "Show if" filter to display only elements that are compatible or optimized for the devices allowed for your project. See Project Settings Summary to learn how to verify your project settings.
To add a Rank Sort element, first click the "+ Element" button to add a new survey element. Then click "Rate, Rank, and Sort" under Question Types and select the "Rank Sort" element. Then click "Add".
Enter the question and instruction text in the areas provided.
Rank Sort elements must contain rank labels and rankable items. Do not number the answer options unless you want that numeric text to appear for survey participants. The system automatically provides labels / numbers for the answer options, which you can edit later in "Options".
2.1: Configuring Rank Label Actions
All response options appear in the question box with labels (e.g., ch1, ch2, ch3, or r1, r2, r3). Labels with the "ch" prefix indicate choices (i.e., rank labels). Click "+ New Rank Label" to add a new choice. Labels with the "r" prefix indicate rows (i.e., rankable items). Click "+ New Rankable Item" to add a new row.
To edit the answer options, click "Rank Label Actions" or "Rankable Item Actions". Click "Answer Piping" to show rows, columns, or choices based on the answers of a previous question; to learn more, see Answer Piping.
Next, define how many items each participant must rank. To do this, locate the general options for the question and select "minRanks" from the "more options" drop-down. Then, enter a whole number in the "minRanks" field.
Note: If "minRanks" is not defined, an error occurs in the survey.
You can preview the element at any time by clicking the "Preview" button located at the top right corner of the element. To find out more about previewing an element, see Previewing a Question.
Note: When you set minRanks to anything other than 0, the question will be optional, even if the "Mandatory" box is not selected.
3: Style Settings
To configure the style settings, click the "..." button at the top right of the element in the staging area and select Update Styling.
