In a Ranking question, survey participants must enter a unique response in the rows or columns. Ranking questions can be created using Select elements.

1: Adding the Base Question
To create a Ranking question, start by adding a new Select element to your survey. In the Survey Editor, click “+ Element” to add a new survey element. Then select the “Dropdown Menu” element under “Single and Multi Select” and click “Add”.
In the staging area, update the question and instruction text, and add the desired rows, columns and / or choices.
2: Configuring the Ranks
Next, you must set up the ranks for the question, as well as its ranking behavior. To configure the ranks for your question, select "minRanks" from the "More Options" drop-down menu that appears to the right of the staging area.
Then enter a whole number in the field provided. This number defines the minimum number of items you want to be ranked.
For example, if a question has five rankable items and you want all of them to be ranked, you would enter "5" in the "minRanks" field.
A number less than the number of ranks can also be entered for "minRanks". For example, to force participants to select their top three choices out of a list of 10 items, you would enter "3" in the "minRanks" field.
2.1: Error Messages
If a participant enters a duplicate response for any rank, an error message will appear.
Note: When you set the attribute minRanks to anything other than 0, minRanks will make the question optional, even if you have the attribute optional="0" applied on the same question.
