1: About the Button Rating Element
The Button Rating element utilizes numbers to rate a question and contains buttons as rows that are evenly spaced on the survey page. It allows a participant to click buttons to rate the question. This element is mobile compatible.
Tip: Use a range of 0-11 for best compatibility with mobile devices.
2: Adding a Button Rating Question
Note: You can set the "Show if" filter to display only elements that are compatible or optimized for the devices allowed for your project. See Project Settings Summary to learn how to verify your project settings.
To add a Button Rating element, first click the "+ Element" button to add a new survey element. Then click "Rate, Rank, and Sort" under Question Types and select the "Button Rating" element. Then click "Add".
Enter the question and instruction text in the areas provided.
2.1: Adding Rows
Click "+ New Row" to add each new row, then enter the text for the response option in the text field.
Note: Do not number the response options unless you want that numeric text to appear for the participant. The system automatically provides labels / numbers for the rows with the prefix "r", which you can edit later in "Options".
2.2: Configuring Row Actions
To customize the row settings for a Button Rating element, click “Row Actions” and select from the following options (you can click each option for more information):
Insert Reusable Answer List (only available if you have previously saved an answer list)
3: Style Settings
To edit the display settings for a Button Rating element, click the "..." button at the top right of the element in the staging area and select "Update Styling".
In the "Question Display Options" window, use the options on the left to specify how the question displays. When you mouse-over an option, information about the feature displays on the right.
Click "Save and Preview" to preview the settings. Once you are satisfied with the style options settings, click "Save and Close".
The following display options are configurable:
| Display Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Scale Order |
Allows you to specify the rating order displayed on the buttons.
|
| Scale Legend Position |
Allows you to set the position of the legend.
|
| Left Legend |
Allows you to enter text to display above / below the left-most button. E.g., Completely Dissatisfied. |
| Middle Legend |
Allows you to enter text to display above / below the middle button. Note: The middle legend is not clickable if there is an even number of buttons. E.g., Neither Satisfied nor Dissatisfied. |
| Right Legend |
Allows you to enter text to display above / below the right-most button. E.g., Completely Satisfied. |
| Container Width |
Allows you to modify the width of the button container by specifying the percentage of the window size it will occupy. The optimal setting for most is 100%. E.g., 80% will stretch the buttons to 80% of the survey page. |
| Opt Out Text |
Allows you to create an "Opt Out" option. Enter the desired text in this field and a button will be created automatically for each button rating programmed. Note: Additional steps are required to setup the opt-out option. See Slider Decimal Element for instructions. E.g., Enter "Not Applicable" in this field and a "Not Applicable" button will appear below the button rating scale, allowing the participant to select this response option if the rating points do not apply to their experience. |
